There has been a lot said about the Bible approving and disapproving homosexuality. Actually, the Bible is plain and clear on the topic. It speaks for itself. Here is what the Bible says about homosexuality.
Homosexuality is first mentioned when three men came to Lot in the city of Sodom to warn him that God was going to destroy the city because of its sin. That night the men in Sodom came to Lot's house and demanded he let them have sex with them. "And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them. And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof." (Genesis 19:5-8 KJV)
The law forbids homosexuality and calls it an abomination. "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." (Leviticus 18:22 KJV)
The law gives the penalty for participating in homosexuality. It is death. The law again calls homosexuality an abomination. "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them." (Leviticus 20:13 KJV)
The law forbids Jewish men from being homosexual (sodomite). "There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel." (Deuteronomy 23:17 KJV)
Another incident is described where the men of a city want to have sex with a man visiting from out of town. "Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him." (Judges 19:22 KJV)
King Rehoboam (King Solomon's son) allowed homosexuality in the country of Judah. God considered this to be wrong. "And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel." (1 Kings 14:24 KJV)
King Asa, a later king, removed homosexuality from the country. God considered this to be good. "And Asa did that which was right in the eyes of the LORD, as did David his father. And he took away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made." (1 Kings 15:11-12 KJV)
King Jehoshaphat, the son of King Asa, again removed homosexuality from the country. God considered this to be good. "And the remnant of the sodomites, which remained in the days of his father Asa, he took out of the land." (1 Kings 22:46 KJV)
King Josiah, a later king, demolished the houses of the homosexual men that lived near the temple. God considered this to be good. "And he brake down the houses of the sodomites, that were by the house of the LORD, where the women wove hangings for the grove." (2 Kings 23:7 KJV)
Romans 1:18-32 describes the progression of those who suppress the truth. Homosexuality is one of the resulting levels. It has bad consequences. "Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet." (Romans 1:24,26-27 KJV)
Homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of God. "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-10 KJV)
Homosexuality is one of the groups of people that the law is made for. It shows them that their lifestyle is wrong. "Knowing this, that the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners, for unholy and profane, for murderers of fathers and murderers of mothers, for manslayers, For whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and if there be any other thing that is contrary to sound doctrine;" (1 Timothy 1:9-10 KJV)
That is what the Bible says about homosexuality. Despite what pro-homosexual people say, the Bible does not approve of homosexuality. In fact, it flatly condemns it and calls it an abomination.
A common response to this from the pro-homosexual side is that Jesus changed all of this. He did away with the law and so homosexuality is not bad anymore. He loved sinners. He loved homosexuals. He accepted them and allowed their sin.
First of all, in order for the Bible to approve of homosexuality, it must say that it approves of homosexuality. It doesn't. For all of the deception and arguments that the pro-homosexuality side uses to justify their position, they have no verses to back up their position. If there are no verses, the Bible does not say it.
Secondly, if it is true that Jesus changed God's position, why do Bible passages written after Jesus' time still condemn homosexuality? It was wrong before Jesus. It was wrong after Jesus. God's position on homosexuality did not change.
Thirdly, Jesus did not do away with the law. He himself said that He did not come to destroy the law (Matthew 5:17). The law is right and good (Romans 7:12). It shows what is wrong. If you use the pro-homosexual argument, you also have to say that Jesus did away with the law and so there is also nothing wrong with murder. The pro-homosexual argument does not hold water.
Fourthly, it is true that Jesus loved sinners but He never condoned their sin. Just the opposite is true. Because He loved them, He told them to quit their sin. Sin hurts people. It is a slow-acting poison. Jesus did not allow it.
Look at what He said to the woman that was caught cheating on her husband. He was nice to her and dispersed all of her accusers, but then He turned to her and told her "Go and sin no more." (John 8:11 KJV)
Jesus would say the same thing to a homosexual today, "Go and sin no more."
Christians should have the same message, "We love you, but you must stop having homosexual relationships or you will get hurt. It is a sin. It is not good for you." This is not hate speech. It is love speech.
